July 2, 1938 ~ September 29, 2022 (age 84)
Joanne Fowler Wall was born July 2nd 1938 in Columbus County and lived almost the entirety of her life in Whiteville, NC. From an early age Joanne loved to read and wasn’t often seen without a book in her hand. This was a pleasure that she enjoyed her entire life.
Joanne met her husband, Ed in Whiteville in the late 1950’s, an introduction from her soon to be brother-in-law Paul. Ed and Joanne were happily married for 59 years and resided in their home together since the early 1960’s. Joanne longed for travel outside of the Whiteville area and would go on as many international trips with Southeastern Community College as she could and would take Ed with her on many adventures.
Joanne worked as a secretary in the legal department at United Carolina Bank (formerly Waccamaw Bank) for the majority of her working career. She also enjoyed being a member of the Garden Club, secretary of the local DAR chapter and a contributing member of the history room at First Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC.
She is preceded in death by her parents Barcie Ebro Fowler and Ella Hayes Fowler, her husband Edmond Otis Wall, her son David Hayes Wall, her sister Mary Lu Bunn, brother-in-law Paul Beacham Bunn and brother-in-law Mack Ross.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Wall Golmitz (Dennis), her niece Mary Catherine Johnson (Gregg), her sister-in-law Glennie Ruth Ross, her niece Julie Parker, her nephew Mike Ross (Vicky), her brother-in-law Gordon Wall (Janeice) and her niece Kristen Wall.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery, Whiteville, NC with Rev. Dr. Fred Senter officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McKenzie Mortuary, Whiteville, NC.
