A powerful storm front caused nuisance flooding and knocked out power for most of Whiteville this evening. Duke Progress Energy crews are still working to restore power in some areas. Whiteville Police are investigating after a body was found in an abandoned car Friday. WPD Chief Paul Rockenbach said the body was found in the 300 block of West College Street around 2 p.m. The State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the crime scene, the chief said, and WPD Criminal and Narcotics Investigations unit is investigating. Three alleged drug traffickers were arrested Thursday after a raid on a home near Whiteville. The sheriff’s office reported that Steven Scott Best, Tara Shawn Little, and Wesley Scott Best were jailed after a long-term investigation into alleged drug activity at 1088 Vinson Boulevard.
