Columbus County has been added to the Federal Disaster Declaration for Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight, which brought more than a foot of rain in 24 hours to some parts of Columbus County, and much more in hard hit Brunswick County.

The declaration means that property owners and local governments can apply for Small Business Association loans to help with covering flood losses.

The affected counties include Brunswick, Pender, New Hanover and Columbus.
