Hello everyone, Meteorologist Christopher Cawley here with your weather update for Saturday November 30, 2024.
Meteorological Winter begins… and the Tropical Storm Season ends… at midnight tonight.
Extremely dry air is responsible for deep blue skies we have over Columbus County this morning. A cloudless sky is likely to persist through tonight thanks to Arctic high pressure in place.
The growing season came to a sudden conclusion early this morning as temperatures dropped into the middle and upper 20s area-wide. It was the longest growing season on record, according to the National Weather Service.
The high pressure will stay in place today, shifting eastward and off the coast on Sunday. This will allow a cold front to cross the area late Sunday evening.
A reinforcing shot of pure Arctic air will then invade our area for Monday and Tuesday. Temps then moderate by the end of the week to where they should be the 1st week in December.
Longer-range modeling indicates that the warm-up will be relatively short-lived as by NEXT weekend, another round of Arctic air plunges southward and sends our morning temps back into the 20s.
No snow will occur during this cold outbreak.
Thanks for reading and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
