Updated closings as of 2:50 p.m.
Two to four inches of snow could fall on Columbus County today, and bitterly cold conditions are forecast to continue through the week.
The entire area is under a winter storm warning. Precipitation is expected to move in this afternoon on top of already bitterly cold temperatures. Tonight’s lows will be in the teens, with single digit windchills. The cold air is expected to hang around this week, and could lead to more freezing rain, sleet, or snow Thursday.
The potentially dangerous driving conditions have caused some schedule changes for a number of area agencies.
City and county schools were already closed today and tomorrow for teacher workdays. Teachers and staff will be released at 1 p.m.
County school staff will be working remotely Wednesday.
The Columbus Career and College Academy will be on remote learning Wednesday.
City schools will be on remote learning Wednesday.
Southeasern Community College will close at 3 p.m. All classes after that will switch to remote learning whenever possible. The Child Development Center will be closed. All events after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday) are cancelled. All classes and work will be remote on Wednesday. Classes and operations will resume Thursday with a two hour delay, weather permitting.
Carolina Adventist Academy will switch to remote learning for Wednesday.
Columbus County offices will close at 4 p.m. today. They will remain closed tomorrow, and reopen with a two-hour delay Thursday.
The Columbus County Clerk of Court has cancelled all court sessions today and tomorrow. Traffic cases will be continued, and defendants will receive a notice by mail at their last known address.
Lake Waccamaw’s town commissioners meeting has been moved to 3 p.m.
