Alfred Delane McPherson, age 83 of the Beaverdam community in Chadbourn, went to be with his Lord on Thursday afternoon, September 24, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
Alfred was born on December 4, 1936 in Columbus County to the late Fred and Bessie McPherson. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings: Lucy M. Monroe, Howard McPherson, Nellie M. Lee, David James McPherson, and Betty Lou Lisk.
A private family service was conducted at “Mr. Alfred’s” pond at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at the McPherson Cemetery; Pastor Buddy Seay officiated.
Alfred was a faithful member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for more than 44 years. He was a well-known farmer in the Beaverdam community, and he was also community minded throughout the entire county. Mr. McPherson established, owned, and operated the Southeastern Livestock Market in Chadbourn for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Agnes M. McPherson of the home; three sons: Dr. Danny D. McPherson and wife, Diane, of Chadbourn; Frederick J. McPherson and wife, Jeanne, of Chadbourn; and Buddy D. McPherson and wife, Morgan, of Tabor City; brothers Hoyt McPherson and wife, Virgie, of Clarendon and Jimmy McPherson and wife, Betty Lou, of Clarendon; six grandchildren: Cassie, Christine, Dannelle, Russell, Haley, and Brody; seven great-grandchildren: Noah, Keylin, Derek, Bryce, Kacy, Ella, and Wyatt.
For those who choose, memorials may be made to the Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church building fund.
