James Christian Brooks, age 47, of Lake Waccamaw passed away after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the home of Shannon and Lynn Worrell with his mom and friends by his side. He was born on November 30, 1973 in Concord, MA. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ronald C. “Duke” Ostergard and his paternal grandparents; Robert J. and Gloria Brooks.
James grew up in Townsend, MA and he graduated from North Middlesex Regional High School in 1991. He served our great country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was employed by BB&T Bank. He dedicated his life to helping others as a career medic. James was a member of the Lake Waccamaw EMS and was also a member of their dive team. He started his fire career at White Marsh Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered with multiple departments in the county. He was a Level I Instructor through Southeastern Community College. James enjoyed woodworking which he learned from his maternal grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory, James is survived by his mother; Leslie O. Ramalho (Joseph) of Homosassa, FL, his father, Robert W. Brooks (Yvonne) of Merrimack, NH, his maternal grandmother; Ruth Ostergard of Homosassa, FL, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and his Station 30 EMS family.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Buddy Walley officiating. Burial will follow in the Worrell Family Cemetery, 911 Whitehall Rd., Whiteville.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McKenzie Mortuary.
