Evelyn Lorine Atkinson Jernigan, age 84, of the Oak Dale Community of Whiteville, NC, died Sunday, March 6, 2022 in Columbus Regional Healthcare System surrounded by her family.
She was born March 16, 1937 in Dillon County, SC to the late Carl and Georgie Keith Atkinson and the widow of Paul Allen Jernigan.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family and in return her family loved her. She was a longtime member of Oak Dale Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. She loved to spend time coloring in her color books, small paintings, listening to old gospel songs, cooking for her family, trying new recipes and most recently spending time on Facebook.
She is survived by her children, Peggy Long and her husband, Coy Jr. of Whiteville, NC, Johnny Jernigan and his wife, Brenda of Whiteville, NC and Tim Jernigan and his wife, Laura of Hickory, NC; her grandchildren, April Davis, Coy Long III, Johnny Jernigan, Jr., Donny A. Jernigan, Kristen Long, Elizabeth Jernigan, Abigail Jernigan and Timothy Jernigan; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa Davis and Emma Davis; her brother, Charles Atkinson and his wife Shirley, and her sister-in-law, Rosa Jernigan.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Jernigan Cruz; her siblings, Daniel Atkinson, Christine Pate and Bobbie Jean Taylor.
Her visitation will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from 1:30 to 2:30 PM in the Oak Dale Baptist Church.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 3:00 PM in the Oak Dale Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Jernigan and Rev. Dean Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Flynn Cemetery, Hallsboro, NC.
