Ruby Mae Fowler Hammond, 76, of Whiteville, NC entered eternal rest at Lower Cape Fear Hospice House in Whiteville, NC surrounded by her immediate family.
Ruby was born on December 30, 1946, to the late Dalton Fowler and Idella Fowler. She is preceded in death by her two sons, Larry Eugene Hammond and Cecil Eugene Hammond Jr.; her husband of 45 plus years, Cecil Eugene Hammond Sr., and her siblings, Lora Faye Tyler and Bobby Fowler.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Worthington Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Troy Cunningham, Pastor Mack Watts, and Pastor John Beattie officiating; Burial will follow in the New Horizon Baptist Worship Center Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Worthington Funeral Home.
Ruby resided with her youngest son Berry (and family) who has ALS to help take care of him. In her earlier years she attended Avant’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Cerro Gordo with her late husband Cecil. Ruby was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, cook, and cleaner. She loved sweeping the floors multiple times a day in her free time and spending time outdoors with Berry.
Ruby loved her family; she didn’t have a lot of material wealth, but her heart made up for it in love. She loved all her grandkids, especially her little sidekick Kaycee, they did everything together. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary (Cindy) Hammond of Whiteville, Berry (Shannon) Hammond of Whiteville; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Jameson) Neumann of Whiteville, Justin (Hope) Hammond of Cary, Matthew Hammond (Morgan Miller) of Tabor City, Hunter Hammond (Katie Clewis) of Whiteville, Jonathan (Sarah) Hammond of Chadbourn, Ashlyn Hammond of Green Sea, SC, and Kaycee Hammond of Whiteville; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Jerry Fowler, Thomas Fowler, Floyd Fowler, all of Whiteville, Judy Mundy of Varnamtown, Esther Thompkins of Tabor City.
