James Raleigh “JR” McPherson age 81, died Friday, December 1, 2023 in his home.
Born in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late James Floyd McPherson and Letha Wilson Sellers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and member of Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Elder and started the rails and ramps in the Beaverdam Community. He was employed at Federal Paper until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Sue Long McPherson of the home, one daughter, Cindy Ponos and husband John “JP” of Wilmington, NC, one son, James Ricky “Rick” McPherson and wife Jennifer “Jenny” of Seattle, Washington. One sister, Josephine Cannon of Nichols, SC, one half-brother, James Wallace McPherson of Chadbourn, NC, two grandchildren, Abigail McPherson, Kyra McPherson. Three step-grandchildren, Nick Ponos, Grace Ponos, Yanni Ponos. special friend, Zander Carland of Whiteville, NC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry McPherson.
Funeral services will be held December 5, 2023 at 2:00pm in the Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church with burial to follow in the McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn, NC.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
