Juanita Dowless Blackman, 89, of Hallsboro, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. She was born April 20, 1934 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Wade Hampton Dowless and Verna Daisy Best Dowless.
She was the widow of the late William “Smiley” Blackman. She earned her Certified Nurses Aide 1 & 2 and Associates Degree in Business from Southeastern Community College. She was a member of Hallsboro United Methodist Church. She was a loving and caring mother and had a passion for flowers and enjoyed their beauty.
She is survived by two sons, Russell Blackman of Charleston, SC and Kevin Blackman (Ginger) of Jamestown, NC; a daughter, Cheryl Blackman of Tabor City, NC; a sister, Debra Kay Lafrancoise; three grandchildren, David Jeremy Fowler, Sarah Blackman and Zachary Stafford; five great grandchildren, Alex, Macelyn, Jayden, Hunter and Gracelyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister, Shirley Powell.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Peacock’s Chapel by Dr. Mark Hicks. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday prior to the service. Entombment will be in Columbus Memorial Park Mausoleum.
