Cutting Ribbons for Two New Businesses in Downtown Whiteville

Columbus County has two new places to eat, drink, and enjoy some live entertainment in downtown Whiteville.  The city is growing, and with the addition of The Twisted Pecan, and Y’vull Axes and Ales, there are now two new reasons to come to downtown.  The couple behind the new businesses are Shannon and Monique Mims of Lake Waccamaw, and the businesses sit across the street from each other with the Twisted Pecan at 712 S. Madison St., and Y’vull Axes & Ales being located at 707 S. Madison St.

On Saturday a ribbon cutting ceremony was led by President Joan McPherson of The Columbus County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism with guest speakers congratulating the Mims on their new ventures including Whiteville Mayor Terry Mann, City Manager Darrin Currie, and Cynthia Ellis who said that the new businesses will help attract people to Whiteville and Columbus County.

Although both men and women are welcome at either location, co-owner Monique Mims light heartedly described the Twisted Pecan as “The Girl Bar”, and Y’vull Axes & Ales as “The Boy Bar” with one having a quieter environment, and the other being more exciting with a sports theme.   She also stated that they were excited to be downtown, while praising her staff to the crowd in attendance.

Co-owner Shannon Mims added that at Y’vill Axes & Ales there were many TV’s set up like a sports bar along with Axe Throwing, Darts, and Live Entertainment most weekends which will include Acoustic Acts, Bands, Comedy Shows, and Trivia nights.  They plan to have plenty of events to keep people coming to downtown Whiteville.
