
Roger Arnold Harwood, 77, of Whiteville, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Columbus Regional Healthcare System.
Mr. Harwood was born on March 1, 1948, son of the late Roger William “R.W.” Harwood and Dana Green Harwood. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Harwood.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28th, 2025, at Worthington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Union Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service on Monday.
Mr. Harwood honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1971-1973, where he was stationed in Germany. Upon his service completion in the Army, Mr. Harwood returned home and completed his degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Upon college graduation, he began his 30-year career in education, teaching at various schools in the Columbus County and Whiteville City School systems; he leaves behind a legacy as a beloved coach and teacher.
The surviving family include a beloved son, Brett Harwood and wife, Karen, of Whiteville; grandsons, Timothy Jacob “Jake” Harwood and wife, Emily, Hunter Brett Harwood and wife, Megan; siblings, Tommy Harwood of Whiteville, Jan Harwood Edwards and husband, David, of Whiteville; special “son”, JoJo Merritt; many nieces & nephews; and his loving “family” at West Bladen Memory Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to West Bladen Memory Care.
