Columbus Plans Independence Day Events

With Independence Day only about a month away, several towns in Columbus County are gearing up for fourth of July events. From the East to the West end, fireworks, fundraisers, and golf cart rides are on the horizon.

Columbus County Annual Fireworks

The Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce has announced the date for the annual Columbus County Fireworks display. The event will be held on July 3 at South Columbus High School beginning 6 p.m. Music and entertainment will go on throughout the evening, and fireworks will fly at dusk. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase on site.

No pets are allowed at the fireworks show, but service animals are welcome. Coolers, bags, or outside food or drinks will not be permitted. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages of any kind are to be brought anywhere on school property including the parking lot.  For more information about this event, please contact the GTCCC at 910.377.3012. 

Lake Waccamaw Hot Dog Sale and Golf Cart/Bicycle Parade

The town of Lake Waccamaw will hold two events this year on July 4. The Lake Waccamaw Fire Department will sponsor their annual boot drive and hotdog sale, while the community will rally together for the first ever ‘Family Fourth’ golf cart and bicycle parade.

The hot dog sale and boot drive will begin at 10 a.m. at the fire and rescue department located at 203 Flemington drive. Attendees are invited to eat there or take their food to go. First responders and fire trucks will be set up on Flemington to take up any donations that patrons would like to throw in the boot.

The line up for the ‘Family Fourth’ golf cart and bicycle parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Elizabeth Brinkley Park. Participants are asked to decorate their carts and bikes in patriotic themes and colors for the event. The route will proceed from the park, down Lake Shore Drive, and end at Town Hall for the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. A special treat provided by Hills will be handed out the bikers and golf cart riders after the event. There is no registration required for the parade.

Freedom Fest

The Veterans Memorial Park of America will have their second annual ‘Freedom Fest’ on Saturday, July 5, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the park. Vendors, food trucks, yard sale participants, and kid-friendly activities are welcome. Setup for the the event will be on July 4 from 5-7 p.m.

Chadbourn Food Truck and Fireworks Show

The town of Chadbourn will host their first ‘Food Truck and Fireworks Show’ on Saturday, July 5, from 5-9 p.m. A variety of food trucks will be lined up along North Brown Street next to Town Hall, and a fireworks display will light up the sky at the Strawberry Event Field beside the Food Lion.

Chadbourn Town Hall is still accepting food truck sign-ups. Spots are limited, and the cost to setup is $50. Those interested can contact Town Manager Jason Robinson at 910.654.4148, or Kendell Bullock at 910.840.5995.

If you are selling cooked products, please bring a health certificate indicating your products are sanitized. If you are not selling cooked products, have proof of insurance on hand.
