Here’s today’s Bottom Line
Not an awful lot to talk about in the weather department, which is a nice change of pace.
Beautiful “false fall” weather today and Thursday thanks to high pressure to our west/north. Meanwhile the cold front that moved through is lingering well off to our south, and then draped along the coast. A weak little wave of low pressure may develop along this front and bring some clouds and a few spotty showers in here late Thursday night through Friday, before the sunshine returns on Saturday.
Another area of low pressure is expected to develop along that frontal boundary offshore for the second half of the holiday weekend. This may bring some low-end shower chances Sunday and Labor Day. For more info on this, see “tropics” below.
Today, folks, is going to be a gorgeous day so try to find some time to get out and enjoy it.
TROPICS: Tropical Storm Fernand will probably be a memory by the time you read this report.
All else remains quiet across the tropics, which is RARE for the Labor Day time period.
There is a considerable amount of wind shear impacting much of the typical development zones. For tropical systems to form, the “parent system” needs to be upright so that storms can pull warmth and moisture from the ocean and vent it from above. Shear causes tilting of thunderstorms, essentially “blowing” them off from the center of the parent system. This means no tropical cyclone development.
I mentioned an area of low pressure that is expected to develop offshore later this weekend. Some (maybe a third) of the modeling suggests this might be something that could develop thanks to bath-water conditions off the Carolina coast. Even if it does develop into something tropical, it’s course will be to move away and out to sea. At worst, we get a few scattered showers from time to time Sunday into Labor Day.
