
On Thursday night, area football teams moved games were up to avoid the potential bad weather.
At Lake Waccamaw, East Columbus took down Union 24-12. It is the second win of the season for the Gators, who snapped a 17-game losing streak earlier this year. Union falls to 0-1 in the Carolina Conference and 2-3 for the season. They will take on Hobbton (1-0, 2-3). East Columbus (1-1, 2-4) will travel to Cerro Gordo Oct. 3 for a rivalry game against West Columbus (0-2, 0-5).
In Cerro Gordo, Lakewood scored 21 straight points unanswered in the second quarter in route to a 35-20 win over West Columbus. West Columbus scored first to take a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, but then it was all Leopards.
Lakewood built the lead to a 35-14 advantage in the fourth quarter, before the Vikings scored to close the gap to the final score 35-20.
Lakewood is now 2-0 in the Carolina Conference and 4-2 overall. The will face Union (0-1, 2-3) on Oct. 10. The Vikings (0-2, 0-5) will host East Columbus (1-1, 2-4) Oct. 3.
