Here’s today’s Bottom Line

A weak frontal boundary has moved through the area early this morning. Didn’t even notice it, did ya? Sunshine will be the rule for today (and tomorrow and Saturday) with temps around 70 this afternoon… rising to around 80 for Saturday and Sunday.

A series of “fronts” will start to move through the area on Saturday. We won’t really notice it all that much as skies remain sunny and temps remain quite warm. The main cold front… the one I’ve been talking about in ALL-CAPITAL-LETTERS this week… blasts through the area late Sunday. There’s likely to be a little bit of instability ahead of the front and there’s the chance for a few isolated thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. Breezy conditions are likely as well… and we’ll know the front moves through as those winds make an abrupt shift.

Temperatures drop like a rock Sunday night and won’t recover much on Monday. Breezy and chilly conditions are likely for Monday… and then the likelihood of sub-freezing temps Monday night into Tuesday.

But there’s a bit of question with just how cold things become Monday night. If the winds can stay elevated, then temps should stay in the 30s… possibly even above freezing. If winds go completely calm, I wouldn’t be surprised to see readings dip as low as the mid 20s in the outlying areas. Right now I’m splitting the difference and going with a “29” for Whiteville … but that could change by a few degrees between now and Monday.

Highs Tuesday will struggle to reach 50, even with full sunshine.

TROPICS:  There are no areas of tropical interest, and no tropical formation is expected through the next 7 days. The GFS modeling wants to spin up something in the Caribbean next week. We’ll see. Either way, no threats here.
