East Columbus Season Ends in Robbinsville, 54-7

ROBBINSVILLE — East Columbus saw its magical season end Friday night in a 54-7 loss to Robbinsville.

With the win, Robbinsville advances to the 1A Eastern Finals Nov. 28 to host South Davidson (11-1), a 27-12 winner over Thomas Jefferson Classical Friday night. The winner of that game advances to the 1A State Championship.

The Black Knights wasted no time in jumping on the Gators as Isiac Collins ran the ball up the middle from 15 yards out to put Robbinsville ahead 6-0 early in the first quarter. Kyzik Teesateskie added to the Black Knights lead with a 49-yard touchdown run. Collins converted the two-point conversion to make the score 14-0 with 7:03 left in the first quarter. Teesateskie continued to torture East Columbus as he took the ball in the end zone again from four yards away.

Zander Lucksavage kicked the extra point to push the Black Knights lead to 21-0. Robbinsville continued the onslaught with another first quarter touchdown, this one being a 34 -yard touchdown pass from Luke Lovin to Tessateskie to make the score 28-0 with 30 seconds left in the quarter.

With a 35-0 lead early in the second quarter, Robbinsville added to their lead with a Benton Gibby three-yard touchdown run with the continuous clock. Lucksavage added the PAT to make it 42-0. The clock ran continuously the remainder of the game due to the 35 point or more sportsmanship rule in the NCHSAA. Camron Allison continued the offensive barrage for the Black Knights as he found the end zone from 17 yards away, giving Robbinsville a 48-0 lead at the half.

In the fourth quarter, Robbinsville added to their lead as the defense got involved when Matthew Phillips recovered a fumble and carried it 10 yards to the end zone to give the Black Knights their final score of the night. The PAT failed to make the score 54-0. Demetris Dexter found Dawson Crosby for a 28-yard touchdown pass to give the Gators their only score of the night. William McDuffie added the extra point for the final score 54-7.

East Columbus finishes one of its most successful seasons, if not its best in its history. The Gators advanced to the third round of the 1A playoffs which is its furthest ever, despite a 3-9 record. Coach Fred Pedro and his team have a lot to be proud of and a promising future.
