Here’s today’s Bottom Line
We picked up a healthy rainfall Tuesday, much needed rainfall, and we’ll get quite a bit more as we end the work week. More on that in a minute.
Today’s weather will be brought to you by an area of high pressure that will provide bright sunny skies. Temps will be a bit on the cool side with our highs in the lower 50s.
The high shifts a little to the northeast by Thursday. We’ll have a moistening of the atmosphere leading to considerable cloudiness, but we’ll remain dry through the day.
The high pressure wedges some cold air at the surface Thursday night. Temps will fall to the middle and upper 30s as moisture and warmer air starts to lift “up and over” this colder surface air. This will lead to the development of rain after midnight Thursday night. While temps will be cold, they’ll remain solidly above freezing through he whole level of atmosphere from cloud to ground, so we’ll stay all rain.
Low pressure then moves up the coast on Friday, in a similar position to Tuesday’s system. This will move much more slowly, though, so expect steady, soaking rain to occur throughout Friday into Friday night. Another low quickly spins up on the trailing front bringing another slug of rain for Saturday.
I have concerns about the rain for the parade and party downtown Whiteville on Saturday evening. The latest modeling has most of the rain moving out of here before 6 PM … but it’s going to be a very close call and one that I’ll be watching.
As for rainfall totals, the latest model blend is showing 2-3 inches of rain from late Thursday evening through early Sunday morning.
Everything dries out by Sunday as weak high pressure settles in behind our double-low. Dry weather with moderating temps appears likely going into the next work week.
