South Columbus 40, West Columbus 39

TABOR CITY – The South Columbus Girls basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat the Lady Vikings 40-39.

West Columbus held an eight-point lead at the half 21-13 but saw the lead shrink to three at the end of the third quarter as the Stallions lit up the score board with 18 points to cut the Vikings advantage to 34-31 going into the fourth quarter. The Vikings offense went cold, scoring only five points in the fourth to complete the Stallions’ comeback, falling 40-39.

South Columbus (2-1) was led by Briana Price with 11 points. Iyana Lowery led the Vikings with 11 points while Demya Powell had 14 rebounds in the loss. The Stallions will travel to The Swamp to face county rival East Columbus (3-3) Tuesday, while West Columbus (0-3) will host County rival Whiteville (0-4).

South Brunswick 55,  East Columbus 36

LAKE WACCAMAW – Brunswick’s Lady Cougars broke open a close game at the half to crush East Columbus 55-36 in girls basketball Friday night.

Meryn Deutch filled up the stat sheet, scoring 32 points, grabbing 12 boards, nine steals and five assists to lead the Cougars. Adysn Bell added 10 points and 12 rebounds in the victory.

South Brunswick (5-1) will play North Brunswick (0-5) on Tuesday. East Columbus host county rival South Columbus (2-1) on December 9.

Heide Trask 53 East Bladen 44

ROCKY POINT – The injury bug continues to plague the East Bladen Lady Eagles, as they fell to Heide Trask Friday night 53-44.

The Eagles have two seniors out due to injuries and are expected to be out indefinitely. It showed as East Bladen only put up six points in the first quarter and were behind by 10 points 16-6. Trask pushed the lead to 33-16 at the half. East Bladen cut into the lead by five points to 43-31 at the end of the third quarter. The Eagles got no closer, falling 53-41 for the final.

Ailiya Monroe had 16 points in the loss for the Eagles. Niyah Wooten pitched in 11 points and Sana’a Singletary contributed 10 points. East Bladen (4-1) will host West Bladen (1-3) Tuesday, and Heide Trask (3-4) will host Richlands.
