Here’s today’s Bottom Line:

The big story for today’s report is the pattern change that will take place this week.

Today will be variably cloudy and slightly cooler than yesterday… we’ll top off in the mid 60s, which is still about 8-10 degrees above normal.

The cloudiness is courtesy of the frontal boundary that has been waffling back and forth the past several days. This front “washes out” today pretty much overhead and becomes no more.

Then our winds take a south/southwesterly flow tonight and lows only drop to the mid 50s. Temps rocket well into the 70s on Monday ahead of a strong REAL cold front.

This front pushes through during the afternoon hours. We may see a spotty light rain shower with the front, as depicted by some of the modeling, but there really isn’t much for this front to work with. It’ll be rather breezy throughout the day, and you’ll definitely feel the wind shift behind the front.

Colder air comes POURING into the region Monday night, such that when we wake up Tuesday morning, it’ll be about 30 degrees. Highs on Tuesday… despite nearly full sunshine… will only reach the middle and upper 40s, representing a nearly-30-degree drop from Monday.

Tuesday night will feature perfect radiational cooling conditions with high pressure overhead and calm winds. Temps will drop to the lower 20s… though I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few isolated spots dip into the upper teens early Wednesday morning.

Colder-than-normal temps will persist through the New Year and into the weekend. Longer-range modeling shows yet another cold front pushing through around the 4th/5th of January with likely another push of cold air.
