In Dublin, the West Bladen Knights downed county rival East Bladen 3-2 in soccer on Thursday. The win pushed the Knights to 7-0-1 on the year. They are currently the number two team in the 3A rankings.
Levi Garcia and Jason Velazquez both scored goals for the Knights while teammate Diego Santos-Hernandez score the winning goal for West Bladen. East Bladen (3-3-1) got both its scores from Ishaq Algozy.
West Bladen will travel to Pender (3-3) on Sept. 9 when the Eagles go to Hobbton (4-3).
In Burgaw, Pender defeated South Columbus 12-0. The Patriots (3-3) will host unbeaten West Bladen (7-0-1) Sept. 9.
South Columbus will travel to Cerro Gordo to face West Columbus (1-2) Sept. 10.
In Whiteville, the Rams of Purnell Swett defeated Whiteville 2-0 on Wednesday. Cy Moore and Brandon Jacobs both scored for the Rams. Whiteville (1-4-3) will host Seventy-first (0-5) on Sept. 8. Purnell Swett will travel to St. Paul’s (0-5) the same day.
Wednesday in Elizabethtown, East Bladen (3-3-1) defeated MeKeel Christian Academy (NY) 6-1. Ishaq Algozy did the “hat trick” while teammate Landyn Scott scored two goals for the Eagles. The Lions from New York fell to 0-2 on the year.
