October 9, 1925 ~ September 11, 2021 (age 95)
Glen Bennett Blackmon passed away on September 11, 2021 at Angel House Hospice, Whiteville. She was born October 9, 1925 to the late Noah Webster Bennett and Lundia M. Simmons Bennett in Brunswick County, N.C. She was the youngest daughter of 11 children.
In 1943 she married Charles Eston Blackmon of Whiteville. They were married for 62 years. Glen was the oldest member of Antioch Baptist Church. Over the years she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and WMU president.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 9 siblings and son, Charles Devon Blackmon.
Surviving are son Tommy Bennett Blackmon (Tina) of Whiteville, daughter Dixie M. Vanvalkenburgh (Doug) of Athens, Georgia, Glenda K. Mclawhorn (Carroll) of Greenville. Grandchildren Kyle Bennett Blackmon (Emily) of Whiteville, Kelly Glen Mclawhorn Graham (Chad) of Greenville,Patrick Jay Mclawhorn of Greenville, Charles Adam Blackmon (Molly) of Hawaii, Alicia Fay Blackmon Sutton (Chad) of LaGrange, Timothy Devon Blackmon, Sonya Blackmon. Step grandson Cory Powell ( Tiffany). Great grandchildren Ezra and Gordon Eston Blackmon, Ginny and Wyatt Charles Graham, Ellie Pearl Sutton, Step grandson Luke Powell. One brother Graham Keith Bennett of Jasper, Texas; many nieces and nephews.
Because of COVID, a graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 2:00 pm, at New Hope Cemetery, Whiteville. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Please follow COVID protocol.
The family expresses extreme gratitude to Nancy Powell, an extraordinary caretaker, during a world wide pandemic. She went above and beyond ordinary duty. She gave care, comfort and companionship for the past year.
