1/12/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up 

MLB:  Spring training is approaching so the need for face-to-face meetings between the Players Union and the league is in the plans for tomorrow. The pitchers and catchers are supposed to report to camp across the league on Feb 12-13. The Atlanta Braves camp opens on Feb 15. Both sides hope to have a new collective bargaining agreement in place before then, if so, the season will start on time. Opening day for the 2022 season is March 31 and it is the first time since 1968 that all teams will play on opening day. 

NFL: The New York Giants have fired head coach Joe Judge. Judge had an unimpressive 10-23 record in his two seasons with the Giants. The Giants ended the season on a six-game losing streak and their worst season record in franchise history, 4-13.

First time in the history of the wildcard playoffs there will be a game on a Monday night. 

NBA : Last Night’s Action: 

Thunder lost to the Wizards 122-118 

Suns beat the Raptors 99-95 

The Grizzlies beat the Warriors 116-108 to win their tenth in a row. The last game they lost was to the Warriors in Golden State on Dec 23, 2021. Steph Curry had a triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Clay Thompson had 14 points in 20 minutes. Ja Morant led all scorers with 29 points, he added 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Jaren Jackson had a double-double with 13 points and11 rebounds. 

Timberwolves lost to the Pelicans 128-125 

The Bulls 133-87 over the Pistons, winning their eleventh straight. Nikola Vucevik led the Bulles with 22 points, he added 8 rebounds and 4 assists. DeMar DeRozen scored a double-double, with 20 points and 12 rebounds, he also had 7 assists. Zach LaVine had 10 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists 

Clippers over the Nuggets 87-85 

Tonight’s Action: 

The Hornets are back in action tonight to take on the 76ers in Philadelphia at 7pm. The Hornets are 22-19 and are in second place in the Southeast division. 

Celtics at the Pacers 7pm 

Wizards host the Magic 7pm 

Mavericks versus the Knicks 7:30pm ESPN 

Heat at Hawks 7:30pm 

Rockets versus Spurs 8:30pm 

Cavaliers at the Jazz 9pm 

Kings at Lakers 10pm 

Bulls host the Nets 10pm ESPN 

NHL:  The Hurricanes are back home Thursday, at 7pm, as they host the Blue Jackets at PNC Arena. Carolina is 24-7-1 on the season and sit in first place in the Metroplitan Division.

Canucks lost to the Panthers 5-2 

Lightning beat the Sabres 6-1 

Blue Jackets lost to the Blackhawks 4-2 

The Predators beat the Avalanche in overtime 5-4 

Maple Leafs 4-3 in a shot-out against the Golde Knights 

Penguins 4-1 over the Ducks 

Sharks 3-2 in overtime against the Red Wings 

NCAA Men’s Basketball: Baylor lost its first game of the season last night to Texas Tech 65-62. Baylor gave up 39 points in the second half, after holding Texas tech to only 26 points in the first. 

Tonight: 

East Carolina faces Cincinati 7pm 

Wake Forest will host Duke at 7pm on the ACC Network 

North Carolina State will face Louisville at 9pm, on the ACC Network 

North Carolina A & T Aggies hosts Hampton at 7pm 

Coastal Carolina travels to Appalachian State on Thursday. The game tips off at 6:30pm  

UNC Ashville travels Winthrop Thursday at 7pm 

The Tar Heels face the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech Saturday, Jan 15, at 8pm, on the ACC Network.

Varsity Boys Last Night: 

South Columbus lost 56-38 to the Pender Patriots. The Stallions are 0-14. 

Today: 

The Whiteville Wolfpack is back in action at 4pm. They are on the road in Fairmont. 

West Brunswick is in West Columbus at 7:30pm. 

Girls Varsity Basketball Last Night: 

South Columbus remains winless this season, losing to Pender 45-40. 

No one could be reached at West Columbus for a final score on last night’s game. 

Today: 

The Lady Wolfpack of Whiteville are back in action at Fairmont. 6pm start to this game. 

West Brunswick also faces West Columbus at 6pm
