Jean Batchelor Bass Norris 84, of Whiteville passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in Duke University Hospital, Durham.  She was born December 8, 2022 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Jimmy Batchelor and Alene Hewitt Batchelor.  She was the widow of the late Frederick L. Norris.

She retired after 23 years  as a  Unit secretary and CNA at Columbus Regional Healthcare.  She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and held several positions in the church.

She is survived by two sons, Richard T. Bass and wife, Judy of Wilmington; Kenneth E. Bass and wife, Darlene of Whiteville; a daughter, Debbie McPherson and husband, Steve of Chadbourn; grandchildren, Amy Bass, Brandon Bass, Dewayne McPherson, Mindy Bell, Christy Hardee and Brittany Spivey; great grandchildren, Katie Buffkin, Ethan Hardee, Gracie Hardee, Dawson Spivey, McKenzie Spivey, Jennings Buffkin, Nickki Grace Buffkin, McCall Bass, Eden Bass and Everleigh Lee; siblings, Ann Reeves, Diane Bullard, Helen Sasser, Sue Bullard, Judy Lowery, J. D. Batchelor; special cousins, Polly  and Patsy Parker, Janice Parker, Charles Parker, Elizabeth Parker, Jimmy Parker Ann and Ronnie Casper and Maurice Parker.

Her funeral service will be at 4:00 pm Friday, May 27, 2022 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne, Brandon and John Wayne Hardwick, Jeffrey Bell and Ethan Hardee.

Her family will receive friends Friday, 3:00 – 4:00 pm at Peacock Funeral Home prior to her service in the Chapel.
