Melissa “Missy” Lou Grimes-Gooden of Tar Heel, North Carolina passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the age of 49. Missy was home with family when she passed. Missy was born July 14, 1973 to Janie and Sammy Grimes, also of Tar Heel. She graduated from UNC Pembroke and was happily married to David Gooden, her husband and love of her life for 28 years.
Melissa worked for Social Services of Cumberland County with Child Protective Services until retirement. She loved her job. She enjoyed fishing, traveling with her family, art, Amazon Prime and family gatherings. She also loved her Dachshund, Clover.
Missy is survived by her husband, David, her daughters, Samantha and Lydia; her son, Charlie; her mother, Janie Grimes and her brothers, Jeff and Leon Grimes.
Per her wishes, the color red is preferred but not required at any proceeding. (If you do not have red, but would like to display it, red ribbons will be available.)
The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Dublin Baptist Church in Dublin, NC followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm with Reverend Jason Lee officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Grimes Cemetery in Tar Heel.
