Charles Edwin “C.E.” Kinlaw

June 15, 1930 — August 10, 2023

Charles Edwin, also known as “C.E.” Kinlaw, age 93, of Bladenboro passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, while at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare in Whiteville. He was born in Bladen County on June 15, 1930, to the late Charlie Kinlaw and Thelma Groomes Kinlaw. He was preceded in death not only by his parents, but also his beloved wife, Aline Hester Kinlaw and one son, William Carroll Kinlaw.

Charles leaves behind one son, Charles Kinlaw (Bess) of Evergreen, two daughters, Tammy K. Guyton (Reverend Charleston Guyton) and Wanda K. Harden (Wayne), both of Bladenboro, daughter-in-law Pam McKeithan of Elizabethtown, two sisters, Joan Myotte and Frealon Six, two grandchildren, Pat Harden, Heather Harden Strickland (Brian) and four great grandchildren, Brook Strickland, Wesley Strickland, Gavin Strickland, and Dylan Harden.

Charles was an outgoing, hardworking man. He grew up in Bladen County and worked many years as a maintenance supervisor at the Bladenboro Cotton Mill.  He enjoyed a good meal with his family or friends, especially with the local Hardee’s crowd. At other times you could find him with a fishing pole in hand or at the beach. Charles was known for having a stern nature. One always knew where he stood on any issue and although he was opinionated at times, he was also a man with heart.  He would often help others when he saw a need. As Charle’s hair grew whiter and his wisdom grew stronger, he seemed to mellow in the final years of his life. He will be missed and not soon forgotten.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 11, 2023 from 6-8 pm at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins at 800 N. Main Street, Bladenboro. A 4 pm graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 12 in the Singletary Cemetery on Old Boardman Rd in Bladenboro. The Reverend Charleston Guyton and the Reverend Bobby Carden will officiate the services.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House of Whiteville and Bladen East Nursing Home in Elizabethtown for the great care given to Charles during his illness. They would also like to thank his caregiver Elizabeth Mitchell for the loving care administered during this difficult time.
