Museum Gets Outdoors in September

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences (NCMNS) at Whiteville is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and going on adventures outdoors during September. Learn about arachnids, the honeybee, and catch a movie all with Storytimes, Playspace Pop-ups, and more.

Storytime at the Honey Festival

Stop by the museum on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m. for a very special Second Saturday Storytime during the seventh annual N.C. Honey Festival. Read and learn all about pollinators and get crafty with a book related activity afterwards. This event is geared towards children ages 2-5 years old, but all story lovers are welcome to attend.

National Farm Animals Awareness Week; Playspace Pop-up

Learn about the animals you love, from cows to chickens, during National Farm Animals Awareness Week on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. Playspace Pop-up programs are best suited for ages 4–8 and are weather-dependent. No registration is required.

Arachnology

Join the NCMNS for a virtual ecoEXPLORE about arachnids on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. The program is all about arachnology — the study of spiders, scorpions and other invertebrates. It is ideally suited for ages 5–13 years old, but all are welcome, even if you’re not a member of ecoEXPLORE.

Register for this session by visiting https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcoduGtqD0tG9BowhX9wYnVI2BUCzVBKifV#/registration.

Movies on Madison: Encanto

This final installment of Movies on Madison will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the feature film Encanto. The event will take place on Friday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville. The lawn will be open before the movie, so little ones and their families can enjoy some of the educational activities available. Refreshments will be up for purchase, and Encanto will begin at dusk.

This is a family event, so no coolers, pets, smoking, or alcoholic beverages are permitted on museum grounds.

Take a Child Outside

The NCMNS will be recognizing Take a Child Outside Week on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 10:30 a.m. A program at the Nature Playspace Pop-up will help you connect your youngsters to the great outdoors.
