Don Seymore Ward, Jr.

September 30, 1959 – October 10, 2023

Don Seymer Ward, Jr. passed away on October 10, 2023, at the young age of 64, we think to avoid having to survive another scorching Texas summer. He was born on September 30, 1959, in Whiteville, North Carolina.

Don joined the United States Air Force. While in the service, he earned many honors, including a National Defense Service Medal and Small Arms Expert Rifle Marksmanship Ribbon. He served during Desert Storm as a jet engine mechanic, safety inspector, and instructor. He spent most of his dedicated service teaching (harassing) students. Prior to retiring, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University. Later, he retired from civil service at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.

He raised his two firecracker daughters, Michelle Goodner (William) of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Andrea Ward Logan of Mebane, North Carolina. The firecracker part, well that is his fault, as he raised them that way. The same goes for his loving grandkids, Tanner Logan, Rachel Goodner, Madilyn Goodner, Kendall Logan and Jackson Goodner. Additionally, he is survived by his spunky sisters, Brenda Bowen (Harold), Tammy Etheridge (Jeff), and Dee Ann Ward (Steve), all of North Carolina (where the best boiled peanuts and his favorite drink, Sun Drop, come from). He was preceded in death by his father, Don Seymer Ward, Sr.; and mother, Hazel Gray Lackey.

Don was good at everything he did, whether it was cooking, fixing cars, building model cars, playing the guitar, or being an amazing father. He enjoyed riding his Harley and listening to rock music. And he was Dad to everyone! He offered wisdom and demonstrated hard work and determination partnered with a sarcastic wit. He was loved and adored by many and he will be truly missed. HEAVEN GOT A GOOD ONE!

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023 in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. Don will be laid to rest at Columbus Memorial Park in North Carolina. Arrangements in Texas are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 19, 2023 in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park, Whiteville, NC.  Peacock Funeral Home is serving his family in North Carolina.
