Veterans Day Events Make for Busy Saturday

Saturday is Veterans Day, and preparations are underway across the county to honor all those who have served in the military.

The Veterans Memorial Park will hold a special ceremony at 9 a.m. at the park, located at 6354 U.S. 701 S., Whiteville, in the New Hope community.

At 11 a.m., church bells in Whiteville will ring as the Veterans Celebration Parade gets underway. This is the second year for the event, organizer Mike Creen said. At least 88 entries are signed up to participate. Bands, floats, military vehicles and dignitaries will go from the courthouse to Madison and Lee streets Rev. Dave Heller will narrate the parade from the platform at Vineland Station. Columbuscountynews.com will be broadcasting the parade live on Facebook as well.

At 5 p.m. Saturday, the Veterans Park will host the “Lest We Forget” dinner and dance at the Clarkton Entertainment Center. The Blackwater Band will be performing. Tickets are $100 per couple, and the price includes dinner, dancing, and a chance to win one of five firearms.
