Elsie Harrelson Campbell

January 23, 1932 ~ April 22, 2024 (age 92)

Elsie Campbell, age 92, of Whiteville, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehab in Whiteville.  Elsie was born in Columbus County on January 23, 1932 to the late Walton Ernest Harrelson and Grace Inman Harrelson.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband; Junius Graham “Joe” Campbell, brothers; Billy Harrelson and John Harrelson, sister; Hilda White, nephew; W.E. Harrelson III and niece; Brenda H. Batchelor.

She retired from teaching in public schools after 42 years.  She taught Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Computer Classes.  Elsie was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and Christ the Lutheran Church where she served as Senior Warden for 6 years.  She published a cookbook: “Sharing Our Best-Elsie and Friends”. She was a member of the Whiteville Garden Club and Delta Kappa Gamma.  She was also a member of a Bridge Club that Meets, Eats and Talks (The Lunch Bunch).

Left to cherish her memory are nephew; Jimmy (Vickie) Harrelson of Whiteville, niece; Carolyn H. Fitch (Kemper) of Kennesaw, GA, niece; Kathryn H. Blackwell (David) of Wake Forest, NC, nephew; Ernie White of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, nephew; John White (Sandy) of Carolina Shores, NC, nephew; Chuck (Stacey) White of Mooresville, NC, niece; Ann White of Sunset Beach, NC, nephew; John Harrelson, Jr (Lisa) of York, PA, niece; Laura (Robert) Wicker of Bahama and niece; Martha Jo Stanley (Art) of Wilson, NC.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Lowe Davis officiating.  Burial will follow in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 pm at McKenzie Mortuary.
