Betty Gayle Lanier Wood July 20, 1945 – July 13 2024 Betty Wood, of Lyman, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Upstate Community Hospice House, Landrum, SC.
Betty was born in Conway, SC, the daughter of Rev. J.P. Lanier and Jennie Mae Mishoe Lanier. Following her loving and compassionate mother’s footsteps, she pursued a career in the medical field. She worked as a CNA for Dr. Henry Traylor, Jr., MD, at Whiteville Medical Associates for many years. After relocating to Charlotte, NC, she became the Preschool Director at Newell Baptist Church where she was a member. After many years as the Preschool Director, she relocated to Spartanburg County to be near her children and grandchildren. She continued her medical career as a private sitter bringing much comfort and care for many Spartanburg County families. Betty loved her daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchild so very much. Her family was her pride and joy. She was a beautiful soul with a sweet spirit and had the most loving smile. We celebrate her reunion today with loved ones in Heaven.
She is survived by her two daughters Sabrina Long Hodges (Darryle) of Reidville, SC; Michelle Long Sutton of Lyman SC. Grandchildren, Blake Hodges Painter (Josh) of Seneca, SC; Paige Sutton (Cannon Campbell) of Wellford, SC; Kassidy Hodges Dibert (Isaac) of Greer, SC; Christopher and Marley Sutton of Lyman SC; Great-Grandchildren, Grayson Campbell and Baby Dibert, due in October of 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dale Lanier, sister-in-law Fay Lanier and one grandchild, Jackson Lee Sutton.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 11:00 am at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Faulk officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery in Tabor City.
