August 31, 1944 ~ July 29, 2024 (age 79)
Wilma Kay Blackwell Greene, 79, of the Cedar Grove Community of Cerro Gordo, went home to be with Jesus on Monday evening, July 29, 2024, while in the Columbus Regional Healthcare System, surrounded by her family.
Wilma Kay was born on August 31, 1944, daughter of the late Wilbur Elmer Blackwell and Ada Jane Cribb Blackwell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Steadmon Greene, Jr. and her sister, Lucille Blackwell Strickland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeff Stocks officiating; burial will follow in the Gowan Cemetery.
The visitation will be from 3:00-3:45 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Wilma Kay was a faithful member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she served in various roles throughout the years. Wilma Kay attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she received her Bachelors Degree in Childhood Education; this is when her teaching career began.
To cherish her memory, Wilma Kay leaves behind her children, Benjie Greene (Dee-Dee), Jody Greene, Chris Greene (Lynn), Kelly Greene Davis; She was “Granny Kay” to her grandchildren, Kayla Wilkinson (Thomas), Laney Greene (Sean), Hunter Greene, Madison Greene, Justine Walker (Shane), Gabe Davis, Kaydee Davis, Morgan McDevitt (Nathan), Hali Hood (Nathan), Samantha McCumbee (Chris); great-grandchildren, Bennett, Clara, Bryar, Elizabeth, Davis, Parker, Quin, Carson, and baby Royal on the way; sister, Vivian Blackwell Williamson; host of loving nieces and nephews, and a special family-friend who was like a daughter, Kristie Georgis.
The family wishes to thank Wilma Kay’s special care givers, Faye Soles and the nieces and nephews.
