Lloyd was born on October 12, 1938, son of the late George Washinton Benton and Lishie Lee Gore Benton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Mercer Benton; daughters, Angela Denise King and Nancy Benton Ward; son, Kevin Benton; siblings, Houston Benton, Charles Benton, Raymond Benton, Cliff Benton, Ogilvia Elderdice, Mavis Gore, and Kathleen Watkins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Worthington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Trenton Ford will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-2:45 P.M. prior to the service on Sunday, at the funeral home.
Lloyd was employed in the construction industry, where he held many supervising positions over the years, including relocating the Cape Hatteras Light Station in 1999. Lloyd is survived by his son, Terry Benton of Lumberton; daughter, Libby Benton Smith (Chris) of Whiteville; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise B. Ray.
