Burger King Sustains Major Damage

Another Burger King restaurant, this time in Whiteville, was damaged by fire Friday morning.

Whiteville Fire Marshall Hal Lowder said staff at the Columbus Corners BK called 911 at 6:32 a.m. They discovered smoke and flames while opening the eatery for the morning.

The fire was apparently in the hood system, and spread into the ceiling and elsewhere, Lowder said.

An estimate of damages was not available. No injuries were reported.

Whiteville firefighters were assisted by several mutual aid departments, Lowder said.

The Tabor City Burger King was virtually destroyed by fire in December. The Whiteville BK on J.K. Powell Boulevard North was heavily damaged in a fire last year as well.
