Southeastern Community College has always had a close connection with Chadbourn, and this year’s N.C. Strawberry Festival will honor those ties.
SCC has been named as the official Parade Marshal for the 92nd annual N.C. Strawberry Festival, set for April 26-May 3. SCC got its start in 1964 just a short distance from Chadbourn and the Sunny South Colony, which was founded as an agricultural production community in 1898. Promoting agribusiness of the region led to to the Strawberry Festival. The college is celebrating its 61st year.
“The selection of Southeastern Community College as our 92nd parade marshal was a natural choice,” said Hannah Hazel, president of the N.C. Strawberry Festival. “Their role in shaping the future of our region through education, workforce development, and innovation can not be overstated. They are not just an institution—they are an economic engine, a community pillar and a testament to what makes our region thrive.”
The festival committee invites the entire community to join in this year’s celebration.
“With SCC at the helm of the parade, the 2025 festival promises to be one of the most meaningful yet,” the college said in a press release.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. on May 3. Events will go on throughout the day at the Strawberry Field beside the Food Lion Shopping Center.
