Here’s today’s Bottom Line

There’s not really much change in our narrative from yesterday morning’s report. A cold front will slowly drift southward over the state between today and tomorrow, settling along the FL/GA line, and then curving northeast along the coast, by Saturday. At this time I don’t think the showers/storms will be as widespread as initially thought, but there will be the potential for some hail and gusty winds with any storms that develop today and on Saturday. A weak area of high pressure tries to push down the coast from our north on Saturday so rain coverage may be quite spotty.

On Mother’s Day, an area of low pressure forms along the front and this will skirt off to our south. There’s some uncertainty on the track of this low; it could come far enough to the north to enhance our rain chances. Given the uncertainty, I’m going with a 50-50 chance for showers/storms on Mom’s Day.

Much higher rain chances Monday through Wednesday… especially on Tuesday… as a significant area of low pressure slowly lifts northward over western SC and central NC. Significant rainfall is still the expectation through early in the week. A warm front lifts to our north early Wednesday bringing quite the jump in temperatures and pushing our area into the warm sector… thereby increasing a potential severe weather threat. Lots to pin down, and lots of time to see how the whole situation unfolds.

I’m going with 90% rain chances on Tuesday, which will likely be a complete washout with potentially drought-busting rainfall.
