Joseph “George” Kowal, III, 43, of the Crusoe Island community in Whiteville, passed away on Saturday morning, April 11, 2026, at his home.
George was born on Jan. 9, 1983. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kim Phillips Kowal.
Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Worthington Funeral Home. The family will speak to friends following the service.
Surviving family includes his father, Ralph “Curly” Long; sister, Candy Herring (Danny); brother, Shannon Long; uncles and aunts, Billy Blackwell, Teddy Phillips, Sammy Phillips, Mark Phillips, Polly Ann Sarvis, Maxine Canady, and Josephine Hayes; and close friend, Kristen; and a host of nieces and nephews.
