TABOR CITY–South Columbus built a two-touchdown lead only have to rally in overtime to defeat West Brunswick 22-21 in overtime Friday night.
Stallions’ Gentry Thompson put South Columbus on the board first with a two-yard run for a touchdown to put South Columbus ahead 7-0 with 7:36 left in the first quarter. In the second period, quarterback Jaxon Greene took it in from two-yards out to push the lead to 14-0 with 8:06 left in the half.
West Brunswick regrouped at the half as Noah Hart ran it in to cut the Stallions lead to 14-7 with 8:35 to go in the third period. Alan Pantaleon added the extra point. With 9:15 to go in regulation, Motashi Lance ran it in from 49-yards away for West Brunswick to tie the game at 14-14.
In overtime, the Trojans’ Marzell Stanley gave West Brunswick the lead with a touchdown run. Trailing 21-14, South Columbus’ Gentry Thompson retaliated with a rushing touchdown of his own. Thompson proceeded to give the Stallions the victory as he converted the two-point conversion to seal the 22-21 win for South Columbus.
The Stallions move to 2-2 on the season. South Columbus will travel to Pender (2-1) on Friday, when West Brunswick (1-3) visits Laney (1-2).
