February 13, 1946 ~ December 19, 2021 (age 75)
Joe “Pete” King, 75, of Nichols, passed away peacefully at Carlyle Senior Center on December 19, 2021.
He was born in Mullins, SC on February 13, 1946, the son of the late Guilbert Harold King and Ernestine Hammond King.
Pete faithfully attended Spring Branch Baptist Church as long as he was able. He was an avid hunter and spent many hours with his friends at Causey Hunting Club, where he was a member and held the CB handle/nickname, Wildman. He also had the ability to track hunting dogs better than a GPS tracking collar. Pete enjoyed farming, gardening, and sharing vegetables with neighbors. A man with the ability to make you laugh and liven up the party, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Darryl King of Ash Fork, AZ and his brother, John King, and his wife, Linda, of SC. Pete was like a Father and Grandfather to many, and was special to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by many loved ones, especially his canine companion, “Tookie Pie”.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 23, 2021 in the Hammond Cemetery in the Spring Branch Community, with Reverend Jack Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
If you would like to remember Pete, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Causey Hunting Club, Youth Hunt, 3951 Old Stage Rd., Nichols, SC 29581.
Pete is in the care of Inman Ward Funeral Home & Crematory of Tabor City.
