Donald Ray Bass, age 72 of Chadbourn, slipped into eternity on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at his home.
Donald Ray was born on April 10, 1949, in Columbus County, to the late Roger Ray Bass & Eunice Maxine Blake Bass. He was also preceded in death by two siblings, Roger Ray Bass, Jr. and Toni Bass Stone.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday February 15, 2022 at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Dr. David Vess and Reverend Willard McPherson officiating. A viewing will be held starting at 1:00 PM Tuesday and will remain until 2:15 PM at Worthington Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.
He was a member of Chadbourn Baptist Church, and honorably served his country in the Army/National Guard for 6 years. He loved working with the youth in Chadbourn and volunteering at West Columbus High School in baseball, football and volleyball, including the only time that the West Columbus Volleyball team went to the State Playoffs. He volunteered for the Chadbourn Fire & Rescue and was a certified EMT. Donald Ray served on the Strawberry Festival committee for over 30 years; always trying to help get it back to how it was in it’s prime.
He was a member of the Carolina Rams Club, which also provided scholarships for Carolina athletes. He had many passions throughout his life which included coaching baseball, playing golf, shagging, the town of Chadbourn, but most of all UNC Tarheels. Donald Ray was employed at DuPont/Leland for 30 years retiring in 1998; He was also an avid UNC Tar Heel fan.
Donald Ray leaves behind his wife, Alice Edwards Bass of the home; children, Judi Bass Horne (Russell) of Chadbourn, Tasha Bass Dyson (Stephen) of Whiteville; siblings, Larry Bass (Lola) of Chadbourn; grandchildren, Kaylyn Horne, Liam Dyson, Chase Dyson, and Anna Grace Dyson.
