Here’s today’s Bottom Line
The dry spell continues. Yesterday was day #19 in Whiteville since our last measurable rain event. There was some very light rain in some portions of the county but not enough to qualify as “measurable”
That streak ends today though as a strong cold front will push through the area late this afternoon. Ahead of the front, a broken line of showers and thunderstorms is likely to form and race from southwest to northeast.
These clusters will likely produce localized torrential rainfall and gusty winds. There is a marginal risk for severe weather to occur, as a few isolated cells could produce damaging wind gusts and even isolated tornadoes. Stay weather-alert today.
Forecaster Nathan Cawley will be monitoring the severe weather threat and will post updates on my “Meteorologist Christopher Cawley” Facebook page.
It’s a memory tonight as skies clear and we turn cooler… and the weekend will feature bright blue sunny skies and seasonably cool temps in the upper 60s. No weather worries for the Pecan Festival downtown on Saturday.
Early morning low temps will likely dip into the upper 30s with crystal clear skies. As of right now I don’t think there’s a frost threat as we will have very dry air in place, but I’ll be watching that carefully.
Tropics: That system well off the Atlantic coast still could feature some subtropical development over the next couple of days. No threat to the US.
