Brice “B.T.” Tensley Cocke, Jr. of Chadbourn and formerly of Daphne, Alabama passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Thursday, February 24, 2022. This was a shock to his family who always thought he would be too darn stubborn to die.
B.T. was born on February 9, 1945, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Virginia and began a nearly 40-year career as an electrical engineer. After that he worked for many years as an environmental engineer before starting his own lawn-care business. Instead of retiring after an accident left him with a physical disability, he built specialized equipment that allowed him to continue working. More than anything, B.T. valued hard work and never gave up in the face of adversity. He always did everything he could do to take care of his family.
He was known to friends and family as the life of the party and relished being in the spotlight. You could always count on him to lighten the mood with an inappropriate joke or some well-timed flatulence. He loved to sing, to dance, and to share stories…some of which were even true. He will be dearly missed.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of 46 years, Cathy Leigh Hooks Cocke of Chadbourn; two children, Carys Davis (Philip) of Huntsville, AL and Ashleigh Cocke of Birmingham, AL; two grandchildren, Lilah Kaitlyn Davis and Wesley Mason Davis; niece and nephew, Lisa Bradley and Andrew Cocke; and grandcat, Punky Bruiser. He is preceded in death by his father Brice Tensley Cocke, Sr., his mother Leonie Doss Cocke, his brother John Cocke, and recently his mother-in-law Connie Hooks Crawford.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Worthington Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Angel House in Whiteville, North Carolina- 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC .
