April 5, 2022: 18 Strikeouts for Ty Lawson: Whiteville Over Pender 5-0
By: Vinny Pagano
Whiteville traveled to Pender yesterday and got the win 5-0, in a six-inning rain shortened game. Ty Lawson was on the mound and once again dominated the opposing batters. Every out recorded against the Patriots was a strikeout, 18 in total. Next up is the Pender did get three hits and managed to get a walk from Ty, but otherwise they were consistently swinging late on Lawsons’ fastball. Lawson was due to come out for the seventh, but the rain started falling and the game was called.
Whiteville was hot at the plate once again yesterday, scoring 5 runs. Bud Baldwin got a single off the first baseman’s glove and ended up on second on the play. Baldwin moved over to third on a wild pitch. Kyler Dowless hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field, Baldwin scored on the play. The game would move quick, and it would be the fifth inning before the Wolfpack put the finishing touches on the game. Luke Odham started it off with a single through the middle, getting on base for the third time in the game. Odham then stole second base. Ty Lawson would get an RBI single through the middle, scoring Odham from second. Ashton Cartrette would come in as the courtesy runner for Lawson and he would steal second base. Kyler Dowless then would get a pop single to center field, moving Cartrette to third. Caleb Johnson then got up and got a bases clearing (2 RBI) double down the third base line. Johnson then easily stole third base. Grayson Creech then would get up and get an RBI pop up single to left field, that easily scored Caleb Johnson from third base. That would bring the score to 5-0 and that would be the final score bringing the Wolfpack to 7-3 on the season.
