Pender versus Whiteville April8, 2022
Whiteville beat Pender 15-0 in 4 innings. Ashton Hammonds pitched a no-hitter throughout the four innings, but he did hit a batter in the fourth, ending the perfect game. The offense started strong last night. Bud Baldwin started the game with a triple down the first base line. Luke Odham would get up next and get a RBI double down the third base line. Ty Lawson would then get up and get an RBI double to right field, Ty Lawson moved to third base when the outfielder bobbled the play. Kyler Dowless would get an RBI single through the middle scoring Lawson. Sam Inman was hit by a pitch, leaving runners on first and third for Grayson Creech who would get a stand up 2-RBI double scoring both runners. Bud Baldwin got up for a second time in the first inning and hit an RBI single scoring Will Fisher, who came in as a courtesy runner for Ashton Hammonds who walked. Caleb Johnson would come in as a courtesy runner for Bud Baldwin and would later score on a wild pitch. Kyler Dowless would get up again and once again grabbed himself an RBI as he singled to right field.
The Wolfpack would have 13 batters at the plate in the top of the first and scored 8 runs. It would not be till the third inning before the Wolfpack would put more runs on the board. Luke Odham would get an RBI on a sacrifice fly with bases loaded. Will Fisher would come in as a courtesy runner for Hammonds who walked, Fisher scored on a wild pitch that rode the backstop up the fence and on to the top of the broadcast booth. That would leave two runners on base for Sam Inman. Inman hit a 2-RBI in the park homerun. Inman lined the ball over the center fielder’s head taking the ball to the fence. Sam Inman was rounding second base before the ball was even picked up, he rounded third on the throw in from the outfield and dove headfirst as he beat the throw. That brought the score to 14-0 at the end of the third inning. Grayson Creech would walk and eventually score on a wild pitch in the fourth inning making it 15-0 ending the game on the Mercy rule. The Patriots were quick to get on their bus after the handshakes at home plate. West Columbus hosts the Wolfpack on Monday, the first pitch is 7pm with the pre-game coverage starting at 6:45pm.
