One of 20,000 ducks will be a ticket to Hawaii for someone, and help support crisis intervention.
Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park will host the Duck Derby Friday to help Coastal Horizons, which provides mental health and other services across the Cape Fear region.
The race starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Jungle Rapids. The first of 20,000 rubber ducks to cross the finish line wins a a trip for two to Hawaii that includes roundtrip airfare, six nights at the Fairmont Orchid, and daily breakfast.
“Thanks to the generosity of Jungle Rapids who opens their doors to us each year, the annual Duck Derby raises approximately $100,000 and helps fund Coastal Horizons’ Crisis Intervention Services,” said Coastal Horizons’ President and CEO Margaret Weller-Stargell. Coastal Horizons supports Rape Crisis Centers, a homeless shelter for children, and transitional living programs for young adults and pregnant women ages 16-21.
“By adopting a duck, you really can change a life,” said Weller-Stargell.
The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. The kiddie splash play area and slides will be open. There will be raffle prizes, crafts, games, and food available for purchase.
Duck adoptions may be made at www.coastalduckderby.com for $5 per duck. Jungle Rapids is located at 5320 Oleander Drive in Wilmington.
