Heavy Rains Bring Flooding

Heavy rains Wednesday blocked portions of N.C. 904 East near Fowler Town Road and elsewhere, creating detours and headaches for motorists.
Swamp Fox Highway, Will Inman Road, Fowler Town Road and several other thoroughfares were blocked by fast-rising floodwaters around 4:45 p.m. All roads were reopened by 11 p.m., according to the Tabor City Fire Department.
Official rain estimates ranged from three-quarters to two inches  across the county, mostly south and east of Whiteville, but there were isolated reports of up to five inches in some areas between Tabor City and Pireway.

Yesterday’s soaking rains pushed back the pending drought a bit, but the area is still under a rainfall deficit.
