Surrounded by family, Betty Ann Smith, 92, of Riegelwood passed away on October 5, 2023, at Liberty Commons Assisted Living Center in Wilmington, NC. Betty Ann was raised in Bladen County and then moved to Riegelwood spending her time between there and White Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Smith, Sr. and her parents Robert Alford Smith, Sr., and Nessie Tippitt Smith.
Betty Ann is survived by one brother Robert Smith (wife-Dorothy) of Sanford, her son, Donald Smith, Jr. (wife-Jessie) of White Lake and her daughter, Geneva Buchanan (husband-Frank) of Riegelwood. Also, four grandchildren, Terry Smith (wife-Jill) of Elizabethtown, Melody Smith Young (husband-Nick) of Pleasant Garden, Andy Buchanan of White Lake, and D.J. Buchanan of Riegelwood. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Alleigh Buchanan, Teagan Smith, Avery Smith, Ainsley Young, Isla Young, Cora Young, and one godson, Charles Russ of Round O, SC.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 1-1:45 pm at the Acme Presbyterian Church, 389 NC-87 Hwy North, Riegelwood, NC 28456. Funeral service immediately following at 2 pm with Becky Raynor and Pastor Michael Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery (Across from Lagoon Store) in Lagoon, NC.
