Food Network Needs Help

Feast Down East, a vital local non-profit organization committed to strengthening the local food system by connecting local farmers to our community, has suffered a significant financial setback through the loss of critical grant funding from the USDA.

“The lost funds are imperative in Feast Down East’s mission in strengthening our local food system and farming communities in Southeastern North Carolina by cultivating bridges between regional farmers and local communities through the Food Hub and Local Motive Mobile Farmers’ Market,” said Jordyn Appel-Hughes, Executive Director. The non-profit’s staff is committed to helping local, small and limited resource farmers access increased market opportunities to serve a diverse range of customers, but especially those experiencing food insecurity.

Feast Down East has crafted a Sponsorship Proposal package with a more detailed statement of need, tier for sponsorship, and impacts of Feast Down East programs and community partnerships. For more information on how to support the organization through financial giving, please view the Sponsorship Proposal: www.feastdowneast.org/support-us/sponsor-us/

Over  the past 17 years, Feast Down East has worked to create a community based food production and distribution network. Between January and October 2023 alone, Feast Down East has reinvested over $400,000 in the local agricultural economy from 46 local farmers through its Food Hub, with $60,000 worth of local, nutritious food provided to food insecure communities through the Local Motive Mobile Farmers’ Market. At the Mobile Market, 25 percent of customers used SNAP/EBT (food stamps) to make purchases, with Feast Down East matching these payments dollar-for-dollar through the Fresh Bucks program.

Every dollar donated ensures the future of Feast Down East’s programs, which have become a staple to food-insecure communities and a reliable source of income for local farmers.
