Martha Thomas Mathews, 81, of Whiteville passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at MUSC in Charleston, SC. She was born August 31, 1942, the daughter of the late Joe Westbrook and the late Christine Lee Westbrook. She was the widow of the late Sgt. John Williams Mathews.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She worked as manager of the K-Mart cafeteria for many years.
She is survived by her son, Thomas William Mathews and wife, Belinda of Clarendon; a daughter, Sharon Renee Mathews of Tuscon, AZ; grandchildren, Akin Keith Ezzell and Lilly Brooke Ezzell; brothers, Robert Westbrook and wife, Shirlean of Hope Mills and James Westbrook and wife, Ann of Garland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; sister, Sara Harris; four brothers, Joseph Westbrook, Jr., Charles Westbrook, Stanley Westbrook and Dennis Westbrook.
Her funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Barnes officiating. Interment will be in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mitchell Stanley, Jonathan Stanley, Randy Gore, Terry Gore, Kevin Clemmons and Daniel Thompson.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Peacock Funeral Home.
